English Language rewards students who practise reading carefully, writing clearly, and checking grammar with patience. Good preparation should include comprehension, grammar, summary, and composition, because each area supports the others.

Quick Revision Tips

  • Read the questions before rereading a comprehension passage.
  • Answer grammar questions by checking the full sentence, not only one word.
  • Plan compositions before writing the first paragraph.
  • After writing, reread for tense, punctuation, spelling, and paragraph order.

Comprehension Practice

For comprehension, read the passage once to understand the main idea. Then read the questions and return to the passage to find evidence. Avoid guessing from memory when the answer is written or suggested in the text.

When a question asks for meaning, explain the word or phrase as it is used in the passage. A word can have different meanings depending on context.

Grammar and Sentence Work

Grammar improves when you study patterns. Pay attention to subject-verb agreement, tenses, pronouns, prepositions, conjunctions, punctuation, and direct and indirect speech.

When correcting a sentence, read it aloud softly. Your ear can often notice missing words, repeated words, or awkward order before your eyes catch them.

  • Check whether the subject is singular or plural.
  • Keep tense consistent unless the meaning requires a change.
  • Use punctuation to separate ideas clearly.
  • Avoid overly long sentences when a shorter one is clearer.

Composition Writing

Before writing a composition, plan the opening, three or four main points, and the ending. A short plan prevents repetition and helps each paragraph do a clear job.

Use simple, correct language before trying to impress with difficult words. Examiners reward clarity, organisation, and control.

Daily English Habits

Read short passages every day. After reading, write a five-sentence summary or explain the passage to someone else. This builds vocabulary, comprehension, and expression at the same time.

Keep a personal list of spelling mistakes and confusing words. Revise that list often, because repeated small corrections can raise your score.
